Annual Awards Program

Each year, we celebrate law enforcement leaders who have spearheaded innovation and change within policing. We present two awards as part of our Annual Awards Program: the Commissioner Patrick V. Murphy Award for Leading Change in Policing and the Hubert Williams Equal Justice and Effective Policing Award.

In 2023, we recognized two law enforcement icons who embody our mission of pursuing excellence in policing.

COMMISSIONER PATRICK V. MURPHY AWARD FOR LEADING CHANGE IN POLICING

This award is presented to a law enforcement professional or other sworn or unsworn law enforcement leader who took bold steps to improve, reform, or advance policing. While relying on science and evidence, this practitioner likely challenged the status quo, ultimately advancing the profession.

In October, we honored Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey.

HUBERT WILLIAMS EQUAL JUSTICE AND EFFECTIVE POLICING AWARD

This recognition is awarded to a law enforcement professional who championed fairness, equal justice, and the civil rights of all. This individual’s work emphasized the importance of constitutional and civil rights, the roles of communities in public safety, and law enforcement accountability, and has addressed racism or other disparities.

In October, we honored the Honorable Lee P. Brown.
